Books on Rich Lacquer Ware from China, Japan and Other Parts of Asia

Lacquer has been used since prehistoric times throughout Asia to protect and decorate furniture, musical instruments, household items, and even weapons. Used as paints and varnishes have been in the West to protect and decorate objects, lacquer can be distinguished from paint and varnishes by it chemistry and application. Most notably, lacquer is applied in multiple layers. These layers can be embedded with decorative materials, or shaped through carving. Our books feature works primarily from China and Japan, as well as other Asian countries.
